Objective: Prepare yourself mentally and strategically before negotiating your first contract
Key Concepts:
- BATNA: Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement.
Define your best and worst-case job offer scenarios. - Core negotiation principles:
- Tactical empathy
- Active listening
- Calibrated questions - Common mistakes:
- Avoid asking “Why?”
- How to create the illusion of control in negotiation
Practical Activity:
- Write your BATNA and worst-case scenario in pairs.
- Discuss how your strategy would change depending on each scenario.
Part 2: Styles & Influence Techniques
Objective: Recognize your negotiation style and learn to adapt to others
Key Concepts:
- 4 negotiation archetypes: Fire 🔥, Air 🌬️, Water 🌊, Earth 🌍
Identify your style and learn how to adapt to the other person’s style. - FBI-inspired tools:
- Tactical empathy

- How to secure commitment in initial negotiations

- Self-assessment: identify your predominant style.
- Student pairs practice influence tactics according to the other person’s style.
Part 3: Practice through Roleplay
Objective: Simulate real first-job negotiations under pressure and make strategic decisions.

- Decision-making under pressure
- Use of probabilities and scenarios
